New Kent’s award winning Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for New Kent County and has been accredited by the Virginia law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission since April 2003. The Sheriff’s Office is staffed by 41 full-time, part-time and auxiliary deputies and 24 full-time and part-time communications, administrative and animal control personnel.
The New Kent County Sheriff’s Office ranks among the best in the nation. The Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge, (12 First Place Titles 12-years running) the National Law Enforcement Challenge (5 First Place Titles) and the 2010 Governor’s Transportation Safety Award are but three of the awards recognizing their hard work and dedication. In 2003, they received State Accreditation through the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission and in 2007, became the first law enforcement agency in the state to receive a perfect assessment.
While the Sheriff’s Office currently offers over 20 community service programs to the county citizens and the Deputies are friends and neighbors, their ultimate job is to make the county a safer place to live and raise a family. And New Kent is safe.
