Finally, crucial to understanding Virginia’s labor force is understanding the US Military’s presence in the state. According to the World Population Review, Virginia has approximately 122,000 active-duty military personnel residing in the state. This does not include Reserve or National Guard personnel. Additionally, according to the most recent census (2022), nearly 615,000 Virginians are veterans. This totals to over 9% of the entire state’s population and makes Virginia claim the third-highest share in the country.
