New Kent’s award winning Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for New Kent County and has been accredited by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission since April 2003.

The New Kent County Sheriff’s Office ranks among the best in the nation. Staff and Personnel include

  • (14) full/part-time communications personnel
  • (5) full/part-time administrative personnel
  • (3) School Resource Officers
  • (3) full/part-time Animal Control Officers
  • (1) Shelter personnel

Community Programs

The Sheriff’s Office currently offers over 35 community service/crime prevention programs to the county citizens, business and organizations.

Awards & Recognition

The Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge, (12 First Place Titles 12-years running) the National Law Enforcement Challenge (5 First Place Titles) and the 2010 Governor’s Transportation Safety Award are but three of the awards recognizing their hard work and dedication.

State Accreditation

In 2003, the Sheriff’s Office received State Accreditation through the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission and in 2007, became the first law enforcement agency in the state to receive a perfect assessment. This trend has continued through each the four year re-accreditation processes, in 2011 and again in 2015.
